This video shows a number of TV Themes from way back when. All of these were co-written with my former business partner Glenn Heaton. These themes encompass quite a few styles from rock to orchestral. The majority of the pieces were programmed on computer, but guitars, bass, vocals and some piano/synth parts would all be live.
I’m a firm believer in melody driven themes as most of these are.You can get away without a melody, but you need something equally as ear catching to make it work. It may be a rhythm thing, or weird new sounds, but I still think a melody is best. As I was told a long time ago, if you hear the melody from another room, you know the show is about to start. It has pulling power.
